पुणे was the seat of छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज and the पेशवे who built one of the largest empires in Indian history. Today it is India's fastest-growing tech city and its most celebrated education hub — the पूर्वेचे ऑक्सफर्ड.

Deccan Queen on Rails is a community-first Ruby conference rooted in that same spirit — bold thinking, deep craft, and warmth for everyone at the table. We bring Rubyists from across India together and invite voices from the global community to join the conversation.

The historic Deccan Queen express has run Pune ↔ Mumbai daily since 1930 — India's first superfast train and a source of enduring पुण्याभिमान. Come for the conference. Arrive by train.

छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज was born near Pune and launched the Maratha Empire from its soil. Sinhagad fort, Shaniwar Wada, Raigad — history is never more than a short drive away.

Can I submit multiple proposals?

Yes — submit as many as you like. We review each independently.

Never spoken before?

First-timers are especially encouraged. We want fresh perspectives, not just conference veterans.

Can I submit from outside India?

Absolutely. We invite global speakers and can help with travel and visa support.

When will I hear back?

We notify all applicants within 4 weeks of the CFP closing date, regardless of outcome.

Rails Girls Pune

The day after the main conference, we open our doors to women and non-binary people who want to build their first Rails app. Run by coaches from the Rubyist community.

Rails Girls Pune gives beginners a warm, structured introduction to Ruby on Rails — with real mentors, real code, and real जेवण.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) in Mumbai is the main international gateway — well connected from the US, UK, Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Australia. From Mumbai airport, पुणे is 3 hrs by road or rail.

Fly direct into Pune (PNQ)

Pune Airport (PNQ) has growing international connectivity — direct flights from Dubai (Emirates, IndiGo), Singapore, Sharjah, Doha, and Muscat. Check your airline for the latest routes. Shorter connection, no transit through Mumbai.

Land in Mumbai, hop on the iconic Deccan Queen express from Mumbai CST. Departs 17:10, arrives पुणे 20:30 — scenic, comfortable, and the most fitting way to arrive at a conference named after it.

Mumbai–Pune Expressway (NH48) takes about 2.5 hrs by cab. Shivneri Volvo AC buses from Mumbai run every 30 minutes from 05:30–23:30 — comfortable and affordable. Book on redbus.in or MSRTC.
