What is Rails Girls?
Rails Girls is a global non-profit initiative that has run free workshops in over 300 cities across the world since 2010. The goal is simple: give women and non-binary people the tools and community to understand technology and build their ideas with it.
Every event follows the same spirit: warm, beginner-friendly, genuinely supportive, and always free. No prior programming experience required — just curiosity and a laptop.

Community-run
Coaches are volunteers from the local Ruby community. Teaching is how you give back — and how you learn to explain what you know.

Held on the Saturday immediately after the Deccan Queen on Rails conference, Rails Girls Pune brings together first-time builders with experienced Rubyist coaches for a full day of hands-on learning. Venue TBD — we're picking somewhere central, accessible, and welcoming.

Rails Girls Pune is for women and non-binary people who have always wanted to understand how web applications are built — or who've tried to learn before and never found the right environment.
You don't need to know how to code. You don't need to have touched a terminal before. You just need to be curious and willing to try things.
What you'll do
- Set up a real development environment on your laptop (we help with this)
- Build a working Rails application from scratch
- Learn how the web actually works — requests, databases, templates
- Meet a community of Rubyists who'll be glad you came
- Have lunch and chai together — the informal learning matters too

Rails Girls Pune is for women and non-binary people who:

No coding experience necessary. Bring your laptop, your curiosity, and your appetite — lunch is included.

Teach what you know.
Coaching at Rails Girls is one of the most rewarding things a Rubyist can do. You work with a small group of 3–4 participants, guiding them through the day — answering questions, unblocking problems, and watching the moment understanding clicks into place.
You don't need to be an expert teacher. You need to know Rails reasonably well and genuinely want to help people learn. The teaching guides and materials are provided.
What coaching involves
- A short coaches' briefing the evening before (Oct 9)
- Full day on Oct 10 with your group (9am–6pm approx)
- 3–4 participants per coach — small groups, real impact
- Teaching materials and guides provided
